I work in two low-income public elementary schools in Ohio. My caseload of students ranges from kindergarten to 5th grade with speech and language challenges that impede their abilities to learn. These children do their best to interact and communicate appropriately with the people around them. Communication challenges make these interactions difficult at times. They try their best and want to learn. High fives and Yahoos are often seen in the speech room when a concept is learned. It is frustrating not being able to say what is on your mind. Imagine if you weren't able to get your point across and were asked to repeat yourself multiple times or use different words or did not have a voice.
