Michael Anderson has 800 students with the majority being of Hispanic ethnicity. 92.4% of these students are receiving a free or discounted lunch. Additionally, Michael Anderson School is eligible for Title 1 funds and if these students are not given an opportunity to improve their reading skills, they are at greater risk of falling further behind. Studies have shown that poor readers, who are reading at a grade level or more behind, are more likely to be disruptive in the classroom, truant from school, and at risk of dropping out of school. The objective of Reader’s Theater Comes Alive project is to help students improve their reading fluency and comprehension to the point where they are reading at grade level. Funding in the amount of $863 is requested to purchase a headset wireless system and other supplies.
