Every student in the Life Skills classrooms has a significant intellectual disability embedded in their diagnosis. Life Skills classrooms have a high adult to student ratio and approximately 12 students per class. The student's diagnosis' include Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome, Fragile X, and many other neurological disorders. Many students use wheelchairs or walkers to get around the school. Use of technology such as iPads are often used to help a student communicate. Motor skills including coordination, strength, coloring, cutting, and writing can also be quite challenging. Staff in the Life Skills programs are adept at using a variety of techniques to teach reading, writing, math, communication, and social skills to their students. Diversity is embraced at the schools that have Life Skills programs; students are included as much as possible in typical classrooms.
