My goal is to use technology to help my students increase their vocabulary and language skills. Many of my non verbal and low verbal students enjoy using technology. I am looking to find ways to use a high interest activity to work on the most foundational skill my students need to be successful, language. Boardmaker is especially helpful for special education classrooms. Boardmaker online allows me to create individual visual aids for students needing language support, individualized schedules and adapted learning materials. Many of my students fall into the autism spectrum disorder and require these visual aids to fully access the curriculum as well as demonstrate their knowledge. Boardmaker will also allow me to create communication boards for my students that are non verbal to provide them a means to participate in group activities, make individual choices and interact with peers and staff. Technology is a powerful tool that will allow me to meet my students needs both at school as well as at home. Technology is a high interest tool that I can use to help my students develop an essential skill. I will use the boardmaker program to create visual schedules for families to use at home. I will also be able to create individualized social stories that will help my students develop understanding of experiences as well as increase their language skills. Visual stories and schedules are essential in helping my students increase their understanding of the world around them and decrease anxiety.
