My students have mild to moderate disabilities. Many of my students don't get the opportunity to learn cooking skills, laundry skills, and cleaning skills at home. My educational goal for my students is that they all have the knowledge and tools needed to cook healthy and nutritious meals, perform laundry skills, and have the necessary cleaning skills to be as independent as possible. At Midland, we have a home economics classroom, which gives me the tools needed to teach my students these life skills, but the school system has cut funds to the home economics programs, so we don't have the access to funds needed to purchase the tools needed to make this a reality. By fulfilling this project, my classroom would be promoting an environment that gives each student a chance to learn and better prepare them to live more independently within their environment.
