I have the pleasure of teaching both History and English/Language Arts. I long for my students to study the world, to encounter that experience, to master concrete skills as well as complex, intangible theories. The students in my eigth grade classes are hungry to explore the world around them, and are full of questions about life and how the world functions - from big pictures down to the nitty-gritty. Connecting these students with the resources to better study the vastness and complexity of the world serves to make their world simultaneously larger and smaller - larger because of the expanding opportunities their newfound understanding grants them, and smaller for the ways their discoveries unlock mysteries in life and help them connect to previously "foreign" places, concepts, and ideas.
