My students are a group of very special students who learn in a self-contained classroom for children with moderate/severe disabilities. Some of our students have Autism, while others have Down Syndrome and some have severe physical needs and visual impairments. Our school is an elementary school with about 90% free/reduced lunch rate, so there is little funding available for the "extra" things in my classroom. My students require lots of movement breaks and frequent breaks to play (in order to teach appropriate developmental/play skills). Our students need adaptive toys, adapted materials for learning and sensory items to help them throughout thier academic day. Most of my students have sensory processing disorder and would benefit from integrating a sensory diet in order to improve behavior and daily functioning.
