My students are witty, fun, CAPABLE second graders, and regardless of each individual background, each one of them knows that they create the future they are headed towards. I have silly nick names for them, and they, names for me. At my school, we teach them The 7 Habits Highly Effective People and focus on leadership. Habit #2 is Begin With the End in Mind, which they know means to 'have a plan'. Sadly, we have resources that schools had 15 years ago, and have been unable to get the voters in our district to vote for the much needed capital override that allows us to get technology for them. Our computers constantly crash, are outdated, and are not capable of equipping them with the technology skills that are necessary for where they are headed. Their 12 year old brother has a smartphone, and they don't even have a computer in the classroom that connects to the internet for their learning centers. They see it in the movies, but they should truly be seeing it in their own hands.
