I have a wonderful class. My students are 5th graders functioning at a kindergarten-second grade level. They have fleeting attention and difficulty focusing. They may not be able to read on a 5th grade level and struggle with 1st grade math concepts but they are eager to learn. Due to (lack of) funding, our school cannot provide technology for students at an acceptable level. In my classroom, we have one computer (which struggles to perform everyday) and one bulky projector with wires running all over the floor. There is no wifi on our school campus and thus the request for wifi access. My students are appreciative for everything from a sparkly sticker to a special pencil to a new library book. I have students who beg for extra homework so they can learn more. I cannot imagine their faces if given the opportunity to learn more through laptops in the classroom.
