We are a small charter arts high school that offers both visual and performing arts. Students do not have to major in any one art form to attend. The dance program at Metro Arts is both based in the creative performing arts and rigorous in terms of classic training. Students arrive from all over the Phoenix Valley and the dancers possess varying levels of skill. Some have taken dance since they were three and others sign up for class having never set foot in a studio before. Both types of students excel in the program and many go on to study dance in college or apprentice with local dance companies. We have students who come from affluent families and others who face greater challenges at home. One aspect that is consistent among this group of students is a love of dance, a willingness to learn, and an acceptance of hard work to improve upon performance. The students bring these lessons into their other art forms, their academic work, and for their life beyond high school.
