My fifth grade students are "my kids" and I enjoy each and everyone of them for what they bring to our school, community, and classroom. They are ten-year-olds trying to figure out their place in our world while growing up in an ever-changing and fast paced society. Our school is only four years old and we are blessed with technology, but lacking in essential items for outside play. Being in Arizona, our kids do have time to enjoy recess in beautiful weather, but we are limited on what is available to play with. I believe kids are at their best when they are in or at play. My students move their bodies in a way that makes them happy and feel alive and I love watching them have fun and be kids. My fellow teachers and myself like to join in and play with the kids. It can be basketball, four square, soccer or just throwing the football. What comes from this type of activity is one in which they have formed a bond with you that can change what happens in the classroom.
