Student learning will improve through high motivation and excitement. All students will be inherently motivated to immerse themselves in the investigations due to desire of wanting to use the new materials that they do not have access to during the school day. The standard curriculum does not provide enough motivation for students to fully immerse themselves in the investigations and standards. The EDL Science Kits will enable students of multiple learning styles to excel through activities that meet the needs and styles of all learners. Student’s will be utilizing math, science and engineering skills as they complete investigations and the engineering design process through utilizing the robots and life science/food chains through owl pellet dissection. The requested resources will bring this curriculum to life and give the students the materials they need to become fully engaged in the investigations and want to attend the EDL program classes. The EDL science kits (robotics and owl pellets) will include components that will have take-home activities for students to continue their learning after they get home. I have found that in the past the take-home activities provide the best home to school connection. I believe this happens because the students are very excited to share their learning with their parents/guardians and the take-home provides a great vehicle.
