My school is a community in which we try to reach every child. Teachers are willing to go the extra mile to help a student reach their goals. Within the classroom, you can see special education students, struggling students, on grade level students, and gifted students in the same room. It is the job of the classroom teacher to help reach all levels. My students are eager to learn. I help engage them by using manipulatives, games, and technology. In the primary grade levels, it is essential that we help students create connections with math concepts so that they can move from the concrete to the abstract. I use small group instruction to help teach students at different levels. I use different materials at each station to help keep the students engaged. There is no reason to use worksheets to demonstrate understanding of a concept when a simple game can prove what students do and do not know. When students are engaged, they are more likely to be successful.
