In my ASL class, I take a student centered approach in which students have the opportunity to work at their own pace. With a 1:1 Chromebook to student ratio this would be much more doable. Having easy access to Chromebooks will help students individually to stay on their own pace as well as give teachers and teacher assistants the opportunity to monitor their work before, during and after class. My students have different language acquisition levels and it is really hard to have the same lesson plans for the entire class; thus, I usually have at least 3 or more lesson plans in a single class. Differentiation is much more feasible with individual student Chromebooks. When we heavily relied on outdated devices, we had difficult time having access to other sites easily such as google drive, it wasted instruction time, and my students lost motivation using them. They simply asked for current computers or laptops to do specific tasks I had in mind but we didn’t have them in classroom. In addition, outdated devices have lot of limitations, for example, few videos could be stored in them, when storage space becomes full, deleting other videos becomes difficult when they are still working in progress. With outdated devices only allow one person to login when I have about 4-5 persons per device whereas Chromebook doesn't appear to have problem with that. By using Chromebooks, students are able to create videos and adding directly to google drive with no problem. As a language teacher, I want my students to stay motivated learning in the classroom the entire time, to improve their language acquisition. My students would truly benefit from these Chromebooks
