I always have to remind myself that my students have only been speaking for three years! Five year olds are extraordinary. I am constantly amazed by their understanding, kindness, creativity, and imagination. As young as they are, my kindergarteners are beautifully unique. Each year I receive students from so many different backgrounds - some sad, some joyful. Being young, they have little control over their environments. I have seen students come to school in tears or in anger, simply because they have no control over the hardships they endure. Yet as troubling as their home lives may be, they know that school is a place of safety and happiness, where they can develop their own sense of wonder and love for learning. I strive to create a classroom that is a safe haven for learning. My students know this. I have had especially difficult students this year. However these same students have become the most passionate and the most loving. This is why I teach.
