The books that I purchase highlight women in STEM careers. I prioritized Hispanic and African-American women, as most of my students are Hispanic and in a bilingual program. The books will not only help boost student reading skills, but will provide insight into and models of STEM careers. The books are anthologies of biographies, or short picture book biographies, so that they will be engaging and middle school students can read them in one sitting. I also requested a women in STEM puzzle and LEGO sets to provide tactile experiences and engaging models to help with a print-rich environment.
