My students are eager learners. We sing songs, dance, chant, and move in order to meet the needs of energetic five and six year olds. One of our favorite activities is show and tell. We share details about a special toy, our favorite TV show, or sad things like Grandpa's upcoming surgery. We are on a year-round schedule at our school. It can be hard on families who have older children on traditional schedules. I am fortunate to have highly supportive parents who volunteer precious time to read with my students every day. This focus sends a powerful message to my students that literacy is a top priority for everyone. My students are my children away from home. They inspire me to reach higher and higher to meet their individual needs. Building verbal expression skills with their peers will have lasting effects on their self-esteem and overall academic success.
