Because most of our students are from low socioeconomic situations, families do not always have the resources to provide books for their children. Many times, literacy is a low priority as well. Students show great interest in reading at school and respond well to the promotion of literacy that I provide within our Library. The students constantly seek books that are current and of high-interest. They want to read books that they can relate to and are at their reading levels. It is not uncommon for students to tell me that they have no books to read at home. Parents generally want to provide books for their children, but simply don't have the resources. In the Library, students listen eagerly and are engaged with stories. As their Librarian, I want to do whatever I can to foster that love of reading.
