My students come from humble backgrounds. They rarely leave their neighborhood. They want to know about their world. Their faces are beautiful with their big brown eyes and wide smiles. My students are first and second graders who are developmentally delayed. They are lagging behind their typical peers by one to two years academically and socially. Many are English language learners and experience processing delays in speech and hearing.
