My students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are full of energy but enjoy the quiet reading time in class. My 6th graders are consumed with their comics and tend to whisper to each other the funny stories they are reading. On the other hand my 7th graders are avid readers and I'm not surprised when they come in on Monday morning having read three books over the weekend. The 8th graders are laid back and enjoy reading a variety of books, specially ones with sad endings. All my students if given the time in class and book options tend to enjoy reading and have found books that they will remember forever. We are a charter school and small compared to district schools but I have opened up my class and created a library for the middle school students. During lunch students come in and check out books and some use the library as a quiet area to work on homework or hang out. Even though it's small our library has a variety of books that are neatly organized and appealing to the students.
