My students are 6th graders from diverse backgrounds. They enjoy working together but do better when I have enough supplies for everyone. They get excited about projects when they can be completed at school. While at school they have the materials needed to do well as well as teacher guidance they may not have at home. They take pride in their work because everyone is able to have access to the same materials, and are not embarrassed if their project is not as exciting as their classmates. Our school is Title I and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. It is difficult for students to get supplies and complete projects at home for various economic reasons. They often will not ask for help when projects are given in other classes because they are embarrassed, so I let them complete their projects for other classes with me!
