We are sixteen 5th grade students; both boys and girls, ranging in age from 9-11. Our backgrounds are varied. Half of my students currently read on grade level while others read below grade level, some significantly. The richness of my classroom is found in both the cultures we represent and experiences we share. Our school lay in an urban setting. We are 1 of 9 elementary schools in town. Nestled outside a major urban hub in New England, we receive significant grant funding through our state education department to further achievement for all students. Students are eager to please, motivated to learn, encouraged to take risks and celebrated for their strengths.
