The math balances will be used during guided math instruction when students meet in groups of 5. The math balance will help students understand the equal sign and balancing equations. Once students have hands on instruction students will be able to utilize the balance as a math tool to help them complete work independently. This tool will help students to check their own work or to help think through story problems. As students has see how math works with a concrete example this will help deepen their understanding of math. Students will be excited about testing their answers, fixing their own mistakes, and creating solutions.
