My students are well-behaved and well-mannered rural children who have very supportive families, but have limited resources at home. These children come to school eager to learn, but some struggle with reading comprehension. The parents and or grandparents provide for the students' basic needs, but are not able to afford many extras. A large percentage of the students have inadequate experiences outside of the community and struggle with reading due to a lack of background knowledge and because of some disadvantages at home where parents are not well educated themselves or are being reared by aging grandparents. Our school is the smallest school in our county with an average population of 185 students, which makes us all family!
