My students will need these materials to build mobile art pieces. They will use the wire looping pliers to bend and shape the wire to make creative mobile art pieces that will be donated to local daycares. This hands-on approach to learning is very applicable and meaningful to students because they're creating artistic structures that both relate to mathematics and serve as permanent adornments for the daycares. Students have full reign of artistic creativity and will be using the multi-colored foam sheets and x-acto knives to precisely cut shapes that will be used to add flare to their mobile art pieces. The objective is to have my students learn about balancing and solving systems of equations through the engineering design process by creating these mobile art pieces. Adding engineering projects to math gives my students an opportunity to really understand the math and make connections to the real world.
