I teach at an inner city, high poverty level high school. The socio economic strata of our population has shifted drastically over the last 5 years, and we are fighting to save our school. Our school has always been an academic bastion, attracting the best and brightest students from around the area through one of our scholars programs. Over the last 5-10 years, the school board has rewritten policies and procedures, redrawn districts, changed funding methods, and refocused efforts in different areas - all of which have left our school in a difficult situation. We are expected to fund classroom purchases through the collection of fees, however, the majority of our current student population cannot afford to pay. This has left us scrambling in an effort to find funding for those items needed to ensure our students' success. Everyone on campus is constantly looking for ways to help our students get what they need.
