Picture books and shared read alouds are effective in promoting comprehension strategies, reading skills, and a love of reading. With the Jennifer Seravello package for third grade, the students will be engaged in quality texts that go along with her Reading Strategy lessons to support their comprehension. These lessons are supported by my division in our curriculum pacing to support the Virginia Standards of Learning. Other read alouds can be used to provide examples of fluency, different cultural experiences, and encourage students to read for enjoyment. So if you give a class some books, the students will blossom into strong, independent, fluent readers.
