All of my students live in poverty, but they draw beautiful pictures of the world as gifts to me every day: It's their way of saying "thank you." Many of my students wake up, walk to school for breakfast and eagerly await our end of the week celebration of learning: We eat a treat and talk about the "aha" moments for the week. They are resilient and my inspiration! My 4th grade students are like "sponges" and eager to learn! During our science inquiry about buoyancy they were totally engaged as they created a clay boat to compare its buoyancy to other objects like foil, a pencil and a paper clip. Additionally, My students love sitting on the rug or beanbag in the independent reading area. This group of students have serious learning deficits in science, math, social studies, reading and language arts. Cross-curricular connections help the students to understand relevance and relationships between the content areas. The 4th graders refer to those connections to recall information.
