We all hope for classrooms the support the growth of caring individuals that are well supported to learn together. Nurturing such a classroom starts on day one as we work together to build strong relationship with students. But, as the year progresses it helps to have spaces that are designed to continue to support that relationship. This is especially true as relationships between students become more and more important for kids. Having furniture and classroom spaces designed to support collaboration and relationship building is an essential component of a classroom. Examples of such spaces are small nooks to share a story, matching comfy chairs to pull together and work on a piece of writing, or a large rug where the whole class can meet to discuss the learning from a fun science experiment.
