My elementary resource specialist program (RSP) students range in grade levels from Transitional Kindergarten to fifth grade. They receive special education support in the RSP and/or the general education classroom. They qualify for special education services under the following eligibilities: specific learning disability (auditory & visual-motor processing), other health impairment (ADHD), autism, and speech and language impairment. Although challenged by disability, my students remain enthusiastic learners. They work hard to meet their Individualized Education Program goals in math, reading, and writing. These goals allow them to apply skills they learn to other academic subjects. As with their similar-aged peers, my students want to find out about the world around them. They are concrete, highly visual, and hands-on learners. They are curious, inquisitive, and are excited to share what they learn with others.
