My students are all unique, and that's what makes each and every one of them special to me. They are kind and loving individuals, despite the hardships that they face on a daily basis. Most of them live in shelters, or come from a family, where either one parent or both parents are not present. They come from a low socioeconomic background, and therefore, have limited use in materials, especially technology. They are eager to learn; however, they tend to give up on themselves easily. Most of my students tell me, "I can't," even before attempting a task. They all need extra help, especially in their decoding, comprehension, and writing skills. They need to be engaged in order to learn. Most of their parents are focused on food and shelter, and therefore academics isn't given as much of a priority. My students need to be aware of the importance of academics, and of how each and every one of them plays an important role to society, both now and in the future.
