Why makeover my classroom? I work with a group of fun-loving energetic students with special needs. All of my students try their best to always do their best; however sometimes that can be tough when focusing and sitting in a desk is a struggle. Students need to move. It benefits all students and helps improve focus. Also, I feel if students are more comfortable and ready to learn, they will learn more and goals will be reached! I would like to have more flexible seating within my room, including yoga balls and wobble stools. My students work more productively and listen more to lessons when they can fidget with small appropriate toys such as Tangles and Fidget Cubes. Simple in-class movements, as done with wobble stools and balance balls, can boost performance. "Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially." Getting these flexible seating options and fidget toys will help my students who struggle with staying on task better attain and go beyond their goals.
