My students are a great group of 5th graders from various backgrounds and needs. I work on a team of fabulous collaborators who view every student as their own. We are teaming this year (I have two groups of 30+ students), and I am focusing on the reading, word study, and writing. I absolutely love it! Both groups of students I work with are eager to learn and excited to learn. A challenge we are facing is how to manage the multiple materials they carry with them to my room. They bring a binder, planner, writing folder, textbook, and chapter books. The desktops aren't big enough for the materials and as a work space. Therefore, some materials are set on the floor. This creates a trip hazard as they move about the room. I believe in partner and group work, and we don't sit still the whole block. Frankly, I need a way to organize their materials to optimize the time I have with them. I don't like wasting precious minutes of student contact time!
