The poverty level of our community grows each year. Every student in our county gets free breakfast and lunch due to the growing community need. Many of our parents are working class parents who work very hard, yet still struggle to provide for their families.
My classroom is a special education classroom. I teach students in sixth through eighth grade that struggle to learn in a traditional classroom setting. Many of my students struggle to focus on their work and struggle with self esteem and confidence. Some students have sensory processing disorders and are diagnosed with Autism.
My goal each day is to provide a safe and encouraging learning environment that is both engaging and challenging. I use positive behavior reinforcement programs to encourage positive behaviors and increase their self-esteem and academic success.
