I am requesting various mediums for students to explore, such as pastels and watercolor paints, in order to expand their understanding and experience with the arts. Also, having access to multiple mediums will allow me to accurately introduce students to the work of famous artists by having them use the best medium for that work. Having these materials on hand, I will be able to provide my students with a wider variety of art projects to keep lessons novel and exciting. It is my job as the teacher to introduce a variety of subjects and areas of interest to my students, and as a result finding what avenue inspires them and captures their interest. I believe that amidst running a classroom driven by high expectations with high support, and growing college-ready learners through critical thinking, it is important to integrate curriculum that sparks child-like creativity and wonder. Having a wide variety of craft materials on hand will allow me to add Project Based Learning activities to enrich content in subjects such as science or social studies. Not only do the arts provide students with a well-rounded education, but it acts as a channel for some students who may struggle with academia to showcase their talents and find appreciation for education. Having a large population of English Learners, bringing the curriculum to life through projects and artwork successfully gives them a better understanding of the material.
