Many of my students are English Language Learners, new books would not only be used to help them improve their fluency and comprehension but also to instill in them an authentic love and value of reading. I currently only have books given to me by other teachers that are mostly outdated and uninteresting to my students. This project would allow me to expand current book offerings and replace damaged old books. Most importantly, when kids see new books, they become excited about reading in a way that few actual reading lessons can achieve. By supporting this project, you are actually participating in the instruction of almost 150 seventh graders. With school starting back up after Hurricane Harvey, students need new books to gain their interest and rekindle their love of reading. My hope if that these new books will refresh their joy of reading and prepare them for an exciting fresh start!
