The books I am requesting for the students on my campus are reflective of their lives: their aspirations and their struggles. Some of the books chosen are identifiable as those that moved us and made us feel something. Some of the books have characters that students can identify and relate to. They are the windows and mirrors they seek. The characters in these books are a reflection of who they are and what they feel. Students will be able to pick and choose which book they feel a strong affinity for and hopefully share that with their families. Some of the books chosen are written in Spanish for those few students who are new to out campus but are also able to partake in reading a book and sharing the contents with others in their family. My library budget shrinks every year and any money left over from other funds get pooled for buying classroom sets of books but this project is about getting a book in the hand of a student.
