Children love being read to and the there is such a huge connection between reading and language development that reading should not be limited to just the school day. Children from our community come to Kindergarten with very limited language and have little experiences with books. As a dual language school, we are developing skills in two languages. We use read aloud daily to encourage language development. Although students have multiple experiences throughout the day to engage with books, we feel strongly about the importance of bridging reading habits between school and home.
The totes would allow for a range for books to go home, from leveled books to picture books, allowing for a better selection of genres for a more enjoyable reading experiences at home with their families.
The more children hear words, and have access to books at home, the stronger they become as language learners.
The take home totes will support the transport of books to and from school and will reflect a better storing option for their books as opposed to a plastic baggie (ex. ziploc). The bags are bright and can be personalized and any 5 year old would be excited to have one of these totes for their books.
