My classroom is crowded. Cubbies, gathering space, tables, chairs. My reading table was a wobbly (bent legged) kidney table. It took up so much space in my room. My kids almost seemed out of reach. I need to HEAR them read, we need to discuss and think and practice. The table caused us stress. We were crowded around it. I couldn't reach them. The table shook and made it difficult to concentrate. The horseshoe shape will help me have true access to my kids, to reach them and reach their books and journals. A new table will be sturdy and will allow my kids space where they can sit comfortably and concentrate on READING and not be distracted by a crowded space and a teacher that seems out of reach.
