I teach kindergarten in a rural school with limited funding resources. We currently have five kindergarten classes, with mine being one of the last ones added. Our classes are not ability grouped so we have all ability levels. I also have a student who is deaf with limited vocabulary. Because of this and my love of signing, I sign my instruction in addition to speaking and offering examples. This becomes quite a challenge when your hands are needed for the visual and for the signing of the lesson. A document camera would provide for the visual and allow my hands to be used for the signing. My students are also quite energetic and often have difficulty focusing. I believe that a document camera would help to capture their attention because I would be using the same manipulatives they were.
