Hello! Welcome to my math classroom! It is amazing to see how my students arrive at the beginning of their 5th grade year not knowing how to talk about math, yet leave being able to justify their answers. Math doesn't always have just one answer. Our classroom encourages discussion and debate about mathematics ideas, and we often learn from the "wrong" answer. The focus is not on procedure, but on the concept, and this is often hard for students to understand - the meaning behind the mathematics. I am so encouraged by the light bulbs that come on during the year when my students "get it," and I want to do everything I can to make sure that light comes on.
