As Dr. Seuss says, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” As a teacher of students across the spectrum of reading development, I strive to meet my students where they are and get them excited about reading so that they may not only grow as readers, but be able to explore and learn beyond their current environment. In my classroom, the interests of my students vary from sports to pets to video games and everything in between. Knowing what motivates my students helps me to engage them in learning that is interesting and relevant to them. Watching them when they get books that interest them in their hands, I can't help but imagine them years from now as great athletes, veterinarians, or computer coders. Due to the varying interests of my students and our ever-changing world, I struggle to keep students interested in the books that I currently have available in my classroom. I believe choosing books and having plenty of choices is important and these books would catch my students' attention and motivate them to get reading!
