As Pablo Picasso once said, "Art washes from the soul the dust of every day life." I have always believed that nurturing the imagination of kids has always been the key to learning. For me, art is the answer. Our school is located in a small rural town where 80% of our students are children who speak limited English and whose families work in the fields all day. In most cases, the only exposure to creativity that our students have is in the classroom. Many children witness the struggles to survive at home and have no real outlet to escape into their childhood because they are forced to grow up too fast to help provide for their families. Because we are a newly founded charter school, we are very limited on our resources even though we whole heartedly value the arts. We are desperate for help and want to provide these kids with as many opportunities for growth as possible.
