I want to be able to create a reading center for my students to allow them to access eBooks and audiobooks. With a limited physical library, and no on-site library at our school, I think that the best way to give my students access to a large variety of books of different genres and Lexile levels would be to move into the digital sphere. The internet is an invaluable and near limitless resource for education. Moving towards digital resources could help my students continue to develop their love of literature. My school exclusively uses Apple products in order to bring technology into the classroom and to improve students’ learning experiences. The Apple iPod touch is the perfect means of accessing eBooks and audiobooks through educational reading apps. Headphones will allow my students to listen to audiobooks individually, without disturbing other students. With a microphone built into the headphones, I can also use Kids A-Z in order to record my students reading aloud and evaluate their fluency. Overall, my goal with this project is to provide my students with more opportunities to improve their reading skills and broaden their horizons.
