We are requesting a variety of literacy and math games to enhance their learning. Students love playing board games with their peers. Anytime they have an opportunity to practice academic skills and strategies in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, it helps deepen their learning. Math and literacy games allow them to laugh, communicate, and practice social skills while being actively engaged with grade level academic standards. Most of the time, they don’t even realize that they are learning! This collection of educational board games will help my students learn and master essential literacy and math skills needed to be successful in elementary school and beyond. This year, I teach a combination class of 4th and 5th graders, and my students are a mixture of different ages and abilities. I use games as a rotational center activity so all students will have the chance to engage with them each week. Students that are reluctant to participate in class discussions are more open and talkative when playing games. The skills and strategies my students learn from playing games will hopefully transfer to their classwork, building confidence in their abilities and success in school.
