The job of a special education teacher is not to "fix" students, but to inspire them to want to learn more. I feel that is an integral part of my job and I want to excite my students about reading. I teach second and fourth grade students in reading, writing, and spelling on a daily basis. Most of the students I serve have a specific learning disability, but I also serve students with other various disabilities. This makes for a challenging and ever-changing classroom! Most of my students do not have a lot of help or modeling at home, so I try to focus on getting them excited to learn and especially read. It seems that my job is always underestimated, however I want to prove that special education teachers and students can accomplish the same things as everyone else. I want to give my students, specifically the boys, the tools to become excited about learning.
