Welcome to 1st Grade! Join our productively noisy and busy classroom. Whether it's learning centers, small group reading, math buddies or science experiments, the goal is always to have 100% student engagement. Students cannot learn until their basic needs have been met though. My students are faced daily with the challenges of living in a high poverty area. Stability in their homes and neighborhoods often is the exception rather than the rule. It is not uncommon for students to be living in one parent household or being raised by a family member, to have witnessed violence, to be living without one or more utilities, or to be caring for younger siblings. Some students may move several times during just one school year. For some, school is the one place they can count on for stability and security. I am so thankful to Donors Choose for giving my students the opportunity to have amazing things in their class.
