Kindergarten kids are learning to read and they love taking home their reading book each night after learning it. They quickly build happy memories and at home reading for fun habits. Reading enhances their vocabulary and schema, as well as a school to home connection. Currently they bring books home nightly in a gallon zip-loc plastic bag (easy to lose or ignore in the bottom of your backpack). Imagine that plastic bag transforming into a quality washable real neon colored Reading Book Bag (with clear plastic to show off the title and a handle to carry it) that shouts, "Look what I have!" I am also asking for 15 level 1 books to add to the Fall book shelf. That will be enough for each child to pick an extra and different book choice for 15 nights! This project will nurture children's natural excitement about learning to read, and build the happy memories around the experience- that is vital to a foundation of a life long reader!
