I teach students aged 10-13 who come from a variety of backgrounds and have a huge variety of skills. They are funny and smart. They navigate difficult tasks every day with a resilience that is amazing. Our school of nearly 1000 6th, 7th, and 8th graders has a new administrative staff, so we are trying new, exciting ways of teaching. Our administrators and kids are energetic. I am trying to keep up with all that excitement and energy by using art, and drama to teach Ancient History. Teachers have moved to ISN's as a way of capturing all of that energy.
Because of this switch, our school will be short of composition notebooks Spring Semester. Local retailers sold out of affordable notebooks when school started. 33% of our school population qualifies for free and reduced meals. Many of our parents will not be able to buy the notebooks we need for ISN's. This grant will allow me to share composition notebooks with our neediest students to allow them to have uniform supplies.
