Most of my students are early learners who are continuously mastering new skills through a variety of fine and gross motor activities. Some of them are also still learning to understand and use their words to express how they feel. One thing that they all have in common is their love of print. They love read-a-louds as well as talking and writing (they draw, I dictate) about what they read. Additionally, during afternoon meeting we play literacy games such as "In my name, not in my name," where I would draw a letter on the board and they have to say the letter and the sound it makes then check to see if that letter is in their name. During centers time, almost half of my students want to be in the library, and the rest choose the writing center or play dough. The few remaining choose dramatic play, the sand table, or the water table. My school has a great climate conducive to learning but due to district-wide budget cuts, we are not able to get all classroom materials needed.
